Maryland is the steward of the Chesapeake Bay, which provides economic and recreational opportunities to residents.
John supported additional funding to expand the Chesapeake Bay’s oyster population, the Bay’s natural filter, and continue the construction of oyster habitats to improve the health of the Bay.
John co-sponsored the Oyster Shell Purchase Program, which requires the State to establish an annual payment rate for hardworking watermen to place and transport fresh oyster shells.
The General Assembly also put into law many of the recommendations from the Task Force of the Future for Growth and Development. This legislation will develop measures for local and State plans for sustainable growth in areas of the State where new development can be supported, while protecting the impact to the Bay and maintaining areas of open space. |
