John developed an interest in public service early in his career. While attending Towson State, John interned for then-State Delegate Roy P. Dyson. After graduating, John went to work in the nation’s capitol for newly-elected Congress Roy Dyson. Working for Congressman Dyson, John focused on building ties between the Southern Maryland community and the United States Navy.
John worked for defense contractor SFA, Inc., managing a team that provided contract support services to the U.S. Navy and other federal agencies. During his tenure with SFA, John was involved in the formation of the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance in the early 1990s.
In 1993, John returned to public service to work for Congressman Steny H. Hoyer, first as district director for the Fifth Congressional District, which includes the Tri-County region, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties. As District Director, John was a senior member of Hoyer’s team for BRAC, which brought over 5,000 new jobs to Southern Maryland, while keeping the majority of jobs at Webster Field and St. Inigoes Naval Installation.
John was promoted to become Congressman Hoyer’s Senior Advisor in 2000, which allowed him to focus more closely on military issues for Mr. Hoyer and enhancing the installations in Southern Maryland. ... more |
